Eye Care Services
We like to spend extra time getting to know our patients in a professional, relaxing and positive environment. By utilizing the latest technology and educational advancements, our goal is to protect eye health as well as enhance quality of life.
COMPREHENSIVE EYE EXAMS
A comprehensive eye exam is a full exam to check both vision and ocular health. During this exam we start by checking a person's vision and exploring their need for glasses or contacts. We also check vital ocular signs to detect ocular conditions that might require further attention.
PEDIATRIC EYE EXAMS
At a pediatric eye exam, in addition to the standard comprehensive testing, we also check a child's eye focusing, alignment, and teaming to ensure that the eyes are functioning at their full potential. This is important to ensure that children are not being hindered in school or other activities.
MYOPIA MANAGEMENT
Myopia control is a group of methods our specialist eye doctors use to slow the progression of childhood myopia. There is no cure for myopia, but there are ways to help control how rapidly it develops or progresses. These include myopia control contact lenses and glasses, atropine eye drops and habit changes. Why should you be interested in myopia control? Because slowing myopia progression may keep your child from developing high myopia. High myopia can lead to sight-threatening problems later in life, such as:
- Myopic macular degeneration
- Cataracts: both posterior subcapsular cataracts and nuclear cataracts
- Primary open-angle glaucoma
- Retinal detachment
DRY EYE TREATMENT
Dry Eye Syndrome is a chronic condition caused by inadequate lubrication of the front surface of the eyes. This could be a result of insufficient natural tears on the surface of the eye, or a result of poor quality tear production. In either case, after evaluating the condition a number of treatment options can be initiated. Patients with Dry Eye Syndrome will often complain of gritty, irritated, scratchy, or burning eyes. If you are suffering from dry eyes, please contact our office to be evaluated.
COMPUTER & WORK RELATED CONDITIONS
When on the computer for work, school, or otherwise there is a high demand on our eyes to maintain focus, often for long periods of time. This continuous demand for focus, can cause fatigue and other challenges. Oftentimes, an adjustment to the glasses prescription, materials, and coatings can provide some relief.
EMERGENCY VISITS
In the event of an eye-related emergency, seeing an eye doctor is important in order to fully evaluate the eye and determine the necessary treatment and precautions. Such emergencies include: injury to the eye or around the eye, foreign-body in the eye, sudden onset red-eyes or itchy eyes, eye or eyelid swelling, sudden loss of vision, sudden change in vision, flashes, floaters, curtain over vision. These conditions should all be evaluated promptly.
ROUTINE CONTACT LENSES
Contact lenses have become very popular for patients of all ages. At Los Gatos Eye Care, each of our eye doctors is able to fit a wide variety of lenses to best suit each patient's needs. These include soft lenses, rigid gas permeable lenses, toric lenses, and multifocal lenses.
LASIK CO-MANAGEMENT
For patients who desire to have life without glasses or contacts, we are happy to discuss the possibility of refractive surgery such as LASIK. After discussing each patient's specific needs and determining if they are a candidate we can then arrange for LASIK surgery and follow-up care.
GLAUCOMA
Glaucoma is a chronic, progressive eye disease caused by damage to the optic nerve, which leads to visual field loss. One of the major risk factors is eye pressure. An abnormality in the eye’s drainage system can cause fluid to build up, leading to excessive pressure that causes damage to the optic nerve. The optic nerve is a bundle of nerve fibers that connects the retina with the brain. This damage leads to loss of eyesight.
The vision loss starts out in the edges of the visual field and slowly impacts the central vision. It takes months to years after the nerve damage has occurred before you may notice the symptoms. Once vision is lost, it cannot be recovered. For this reason Your Los Gatos Eye Care Provider may perform several tests, including:

- Measuring corneal thickness with an exam called pachymetry
- Inspecting the drainage angle, also known as gonioscopy
